Touching the People Around the World with Digital 'Games'
As you all know I am in a soft job of working as a software tester. But what I do as part of my job has more profound reach outside of my job. For instance, by virtue of my job, I changed my base location from Hyderabad to Chicago, from India to U.S. What I do on a laptop might be very minor when compared to what kind of influence I can have externally. But the power to act comes from my job which gives me everything and which is why I am working in this way. My job holds the things together, acting as a firm center point from which I open up to the world. Otherwise, I will not be in Chicago, I will not be in U.S. or I might not do anything I am doing today. In simple words, this is the power of a simple soft job which lets me be who I am today. I am all for the enablers of this job who provided me with a platform to express myself. In a curtailed, slave world, I might have been suppressed to the limited purview of my job. But in an independent world with lot of freedom, I am left to manifest myself to leave an impression wide and far. Once again, this is the power coming from a small job, its providers, the companies to reach over a wide area of influence. Every one of these, who directly contributes to my cause are all extremely praiseworthy as I feel sometimes, they come out of their way to accommodate me. As I mentioned many a times earlier, this is the power coming from soft typing on a keyboard, gentle mouse clicks and mild touchpads which seems like gamified experience but exerts tremendous influence. These are games for the self and games for the world. If not a hyperbole, the two countries where I work are under good influence of these games.
Just to remind of the last two to three months while I am living my game, I had written and worked on epic of epics every week. Does anyone understand the true measure of what I was writing or what I was working over the last two to three months. Just look at my blogspace or my working canvas and look at the headlines of the blogposts to know the frightening measure of these epics. It might not disturb you but I feel internally moved by the heights of this work. Everday, the work gradually becomes amped up and I end up writing an epic every week. I am frightened at the magnitude I can see and feel in those posts. It has been a series of epics lined up every week so much so that the absence is felt keenly rather than their presence. But how is it humanly possible to write them with a bit of authenticity and authority while working in a small job. How can I continue uninterrupted and unabated for so long. How can the seemingly small ‘game’ which sustains me gave rise and accommodated a period of creating epic wonders. I can go on in the flow but can the small job hold up all of this.
To tell about the frightening magnitude with an example, I felt and written about ‘giving financial freedom to poor Indians by giving out 10 lakhs to every poor family’ in one post. I cannot simply talk in the air without really being in a position to make them work. The post, if turned into reality will require an amount far greater than Indian national budget receipts. In another post I talked about Bengal contributing to a better spiritual world and in another I talked about the need for India to Americanize its sports system. On America, I talked to change its gun culture and cleanse its soul, the nation at the cusp of greatness, the need for industrious revolution in U.S., epic report on Las Vegas trip among other topics. Each and every post taken at face value is highly invaluable. How on Earth is it possible to write these scriptures with so much weightage, magnitude and severity every week and back them up with daily work routines. How on earth can it continue in this way and how on Earth can the person continue doing so. The point is what kind of game am I playing and what kind of job am I doing to get into epic position doing this epic work. Can any small job worker, playing little games at work continue to work at this epic scale. As mentioned, what kind of little gamified job will go out of its way to support the external work by giving a sense of solemnness and gravity to it. You cannot but appreciate the little game and its enablers which plays a role in creating these epics. For without the canvas or playground, you cannot play. Without the field, there is no crop.
The little software job and IT is definitely an enabler behind creating these moments. I give full credit to the roots of the tree which gives strength to rise to epic heights. Here the roots are managers, team, projects and organizations. Without these all falling in place somehow, it is impossible to continue the work unabated on top of scaling new heights every day. How come I am playing the game without dropping off for so long. Continuity matters to rise to new heights. How come I am so unrelenting and continuous. The secret lies with a set of people who are different in their making. It is none other than Tamilians or the techies from Tamil Nadu who got me to continue the work after a seemingly little pause. After coming to U.S. 2 and a half years back, I was removed from job couple of times. Once, three months back and another time two years ago. When you don’t have a job or project, you are in danger of changing the location, city, state, client and even country sometimes. But I am continuing in same location, city, client and country by being offered a position by these beautiful Tamilians. On both occasions of removal, I was immediately put in another project by these helping hands from the southern India who had faith in me and my personality. Imagine, what good wishes goes behind offering me a position and placing me in a project. This continuity is the reason behind creating these epic tales and wonders. These beautiful creatures need to be backed up and supported for all the right reasons for placing faith in me ever since I came to U.S. I will come up with a separate post on the greatness of Tamil Nadu and its people another time but know that I am playing the game for so long in U.S. because of them. It is not simple to find a job and put me in the groove which works for me.
I had spoken about the wonders I am creating by playing my digital game and you can also know the wonders these digital tools have brought to people lives. You can look at the impact of the technology where our lives are built around. More than 5 billion people around the world have a mobile phone, use internet and has a social media presence. Know that the total world population stands at 8 billion. The world is truly digitalized where 66% of the total population has now begun to stare or use a digital tool. This digital adoption is the fastest growing trend and technology at any point of time of human progression. Look at the turn of this century in the year 2000 – the world has 25 million social media users, 300 million internet users and 700 million mobile phone users and this number has grown to 5.5 billion in just 24 years in these three usable areas. No where has the world progressed so fast in adopting digital services. What more, people from Kenya spend nearly 4 hours every day on social media. People from South Africa use 9.5 hours every day on internet. People from South American countries spend as much time on internet on an average. There is no longer a great digital divide but digital inclusion and digital connectivity of people across the world. This is a significant phenomenon underway created by the technology of this century touching people across the world. All of this tells us that the world is truly touched by these digital games – both offline and online.
