                    I would like to resume the tracking of the weekly covid-19 scenario in the country through this medium. Yes, there has been a lot of improvement over the time since the second wave in the country. The wave for daily infections is slowly dying down and touching the ground after flying high few months back. The 7 day average of the daily cases in the country is 13 thousand. The active cases have also reduced to 1.6 lakh. From the update in this space a month ago, both the daily infections and active cases in the country have reduced by half.             My weekly update on the covid-19 in the country has hit a roadblock, a while ago and couldn’t proceed any further. This has been nearly a month and I feel frustrated at times as well, as I couldn’t continue something I am slightly good at. I need not expose what I write always but could have written for the sake of it undisclosed and even that did not happen.                 The covid-19 in the country is dormant for a while. The 7 day moving average of cases lies at 29 thousand. This saw a very slight reduction of one thousand over the previous week. As mentioned earlier, the count of cases are hovering up and down this narrow channel since some time. The curve is flattened since almost three months and this gives a good chance to ramp it down. The active cases in the country stand at 3 lakhs and reducing by nearly 40 thousand each week since last 2 weeks. It is surprisingly overwhelming to note Kerala is contributing more than 60% to the tally over the past few months with regards to number of daily infections and holds more than 50% of active cases.                    To take a look at the covid-19 in the country, the cases are progressing along a linear line with very few deviations, since the past many weeks. The 7-day average of the cases is once again in the zone with 35 thousand which is 3 thousand less than earlier week. The active cases have also fallen from 4.1 lakh to 3.84 lakh and remained at this small range for long. The daily infections, weekly average, active cases etc. are oscillating up and down slightly within a narrow range which is negligible and in turn giving a linear shape to covid-19 progress in the country.                  The covid-19 cases in the country have returned to rise from the past 2 weeks. This week as well, there is a rise in the number of seven-day average cases from 38 thousand to 42 thousand. The number of active cases in the country also saw a rise from 3.68 lakh last week to 4.1 lakh, a 40 thousand increase in one week. Out of the 36 states and UTs, 31 are registering a mere three and two digit cases whereas the remaining 5 are posing problems. Even less, two states are accounting for 80% of cases and just one state is logging 70% of cases. These 5-6 states which are accounting for 91% of the cases in the country are Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Mizoram – 5 from the South and one from North East.                   The covid-19 cases in the country have once again started to rise slightly. The average of the cases for the last 7 days rose to 38 thousand from 33 thousand last week. The active cases in the country also rose from 3.53 lakh to 3.68 lakh. The daily cases are rising and the active cases are rising after a drop for past many weeks. Does this rise signify anything and requires caution? It doesn’t mean much to the country except a state which is evolving to be the single big containment zone. The main contributor is the state of Kerala which accounts for nearly 70% of the daily cases in the country for the past few days and has more than 2 lakh active cases. It is intriguing to see why a single state is causing daily infections more than 30 thousand for the past three days accounting for more than 70% of the total.               The covid-19 in the country is receding slowly and steadily. The average of the cases for the last week is 33 thousand which is four thousand less than the previous week. The active cases in the country stand at 3.53 lakh which saw a drop of over 30 thousand over the last week. Barring few states which are contributing a major portion to the daily infections, the covid-19 situation is progressively under control. This is also giving an opportunity for the states to ease the lockdown measures imposed all over the country. Most of the lockdown measures across the states in the country are relaxed and we are slowly inching back to unrestricted nation. Most of the businesses are back and all the work on the ground is going on uninhibited.
