Take On The Cause For United State

Despite the ongoing agitation from July 30 against the decision to bifurcate the state, the ruling party had further pressed to go ahead by passing the bill framed by group of ministers. This got the approval of the central ministers and the President to hang it in the State assembly for comment. From a fair judge point of view, the entire episode seemed to be a case which was handled ineptly and how not to arrive at conclusions by only looking from the top. For all the reasons of little value, one cannot arrive at irreversible act of building boundaries when the outcome affects the future and the psyche of crores on land. These decisions to bifurcate coming from the leaders in high positions should have gained wider acceptance if they are people-centric or process-centric and not person-centric, power-centric or period-centric.

In the long winding process leading upto the decision taken for separation, there is a consensus among all the political parties. The main opposition BJP was inclined towards smaller states by principle and a careful study could have made this particular case as exception. The main opposition in the state TDP also stood in favour by issuing a letter of support and joining forces with TRS in previous elections. This coalition built upon the prevailing sentiment was defeated by congress which was then against the division. Thus all these parties had their own reasons to favour separation but none which cater to solve the problems of either sides and channelizing the energies towards meaningful work.

Since the journey of these agitations has been long and deep-rooted, it’s a difficult task to soothe either sides permanently, without providing sufficient cushion, from the shock of a sudden decision. The job to divide may get the nod of the parliament but may not pass the assembly which comes across as a particular bill which is pressed hard to follow. It might not be accepted without a fight as the people of Seemandhra needs to have the magnanimity to give away the capital, built in partnership and assuming ownership, which brings nearly 60% of the state’s income and to put several potential problems aside. Such largesse also demands a requirement of equal magnitude. The requirement is neither backwardness nor any other severity but to facilitate an administrative setup which will inadvertently curb the growth-inducing political, corporate and other interests of Seemandhra region over the capital region. This thought process brings more meaning to the agitation which has been living for the past many days and may as well continue if the central leaders persists with the bifurcation. Owing to the pressure of a constant demand brings all the political parties to a common platform and none to question the necessity. Such moves have resulted in paralyzing the administration for a number of days and peoples outcry against the elected representatives with the NGOs, employees refusing to discharge the duties. Several lakh employees took to indefinite strike and expressed their dissent in various forms – forming lengthy human chains, burning things and attacking the houses of their elected representatives. It seemed tough to negotiate but the assurances from the leaders have resulted in relieving the agitation.

When a moral is tough to follow in this day and age, one atleast tend to follow the popular conception in a democracy. When the popular conception is also bypassed a separate state can be created. This seemed to be the premise of introducing a bill devoid of voting in the assembly which does not satisfy a definite majority of the stakeholders but may pass into a reality. When two persons are finding it difficult to co-exist, a third person in high position is expected to try things which would calm the situation and restore order. By keeping to oneself and staying within limits, the third person didnot bothered about these good things but facilitated the separation by providing additional help to the disadvantaged. This attitude of decision making and further tough stand to act with the same spirit has given fuel to evoke backlash in the region for the past few months.

In all the previous instances, the territories which were divided got the approval from the parent territory. Since this is a different scenario and the bill is in assembly, a kind of situation was created on the ground wherein both sides are hopeful of their cases to succeed. It’s easy to understand that dismissing the bill squarely favouring any side would aid in more tense situations. It is also up for the stakeholders to solve the problem by themselves. This cannot happen unless both the sides make the effort to step down for discussions and yield some of their ground for co-existence.

Though the new state in itself does not generally improve the relations, it trades off the pure feeling of brotherhood. When the demands for self-rule are persistent over the decades, there ought to permanent soothing reaction. As the history unfolded, not much seemed to have done till the tipping point was reached. The theory of separation augurs well for the future if there is no opposition to it. However, due to an equal or greater demand for a united cause – the end result should naturally tilt towards a united state. Let truth and good triumph in good times as the people on either sides wish the same.
