Coronavirus Part 37, Priorities and Leading a Healthy Life

The days of fewer cases are upon us these days. The caseload is falling since almost last two months. But the reduction has been very nominal in the last week. The average of cases is 46 thousand which is 4 thousand less than earlier week. Compared to the earlier fall, this is less. None the less, the infections and positivity rate are dropping. Now that the situation is improving, let us look at another important number which is the total active cases in the country. The active cases are nearly 5 lakhs which is a huge number in itself. Our priority and concentration should be to make it zero and get our country to the shores of virus-free zone. There are still few obstacles along the way which are: 1.Unlock measures by states 2. The other countries of the world are still registering infections.           Talking of the first point, it is a catch-22 situation of whether to lock or unlock. Y...

Coronavirus Part 36, Disruption and Living in Golden State.

The covid second wave in the country has settled with a semi-triangular wave as far as the daily infections are concerned. It means the infections accelerated fast, reached the peak and then decelerated in the same pace giving the wave a triangular shape. We are saved in that it is not a square wave where the peak plateaus for longer time periods. It tells the country reacted very well and kept the damage under control since the peak lasted very briefly and the cases gradually reduced. A big pat on the back for the government at all levels, administration, warriors and every one responsible for very quick reaction and taming the virus.               With that, let us hope we closed the second wave since the numbers are dropping, triangle is completed and no more spikes are in-store. The average of cases in the week saw further drop to around ...

Coronavirus Part 35, Vaccination and Growth of Nation

The image of the covid-19 second wave seems like slowly fading from its peak. The nation which endured the heavy firing is slowly under the defence with good cover from the virus. After the meteoric rise in April, May, total infections are experiencing a fall in this month which is a good sign of a quick recovery from the clutches of the virus. The average of cases in this week is around 65 thousand which has been dropping by each successive week. Just as of today, my state has completely lifted all the lockdown restrictions from 20 th of this month. We are once again out there in the free and open world. But we are sitting on a strange and unknown future as nothing can be taken for granted in this corona world. There can be another spike around the corner or another wave in near future and we can be locked down again after it is completely unlocked briefly. To give a faint certainty to the unc...

Coronavirus Part 34, Prized Possessions

It has been a 4 th straight week of covid-19 cases lessening in the country. The weekly average number of cases saw a drop from 1.3 lakh in previous week to 90 thousand this week. The daily cases are hovering around 90 thousand for the past few days which is a good progress in the fight. This is the number which has been seen in September last year. After a period of 9 months, average daily cases are hovering around 90 thousand once again. My residing state is gradually opening up with each successive phase adding more hours to the unlock timings. As on today, the state is unlocked for 12 hours and observing curfew for the remaining 12. The rest of the country can also implement these localised strategies to further curb the number.              The southern states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are contributing heavily to the l...

Coronavirus Part 33, 'Chokehold' and Augmenting Record Keeping

There has been a drop in the covid-19 cases in the country in the last week as well. The weekly average number of cases has fallen to 1.3 lakh from 2 lakh which indicates a good progress in the fight against the pandemic. Exactly a month ago, the total number of cases registered in a day saw the highest number of 4.14 lakh on May 6 th . A month later, this has been reduced to a quarter of it – around 1 lakh. The entire national resources and those from foreign nations are also being deployed to tackle the virus. These measures taken seem to have bearing fruit since the past 3-4 weeks, as the cases have been reducing daily and we are back to the levels of pre-second wave. To consolidate the gains and to bring down the number further, it is advisable to continue the status quo as far as lockdown is concerned in the country. Since this strategy is working, a few more days of curfew in prevalence areas will do more good than not. ...

Coronavirus Part 32, Heartfelt Tribute to First Line Of Defence or Covid Warriors

The covid-19 daily infections in the country are waning for some time. The trend has been the same this past week as well. The average number of cases in the last week is around 2 lakh and it is 2.75 lakh the previous week. From the peak numbers 20 days back, this has reduced by half which is a good progress. If the same momentum is continued, the virus can be broken into pieces sooner than later. But 2 lakh is still a big number and this restricted mobility, curfew, lockdown has to continue for few more days till the infections are significantly low. The fight must continue against the virus in all forms and modes possible in a co-ordinated, consolidated, cumulative manner from all sides to emerge successful with limited damage.               This fight is being waged by the covid warriors in the country while others have little idea of what they ar...

Coronavirus Part 31, Limiting the Burdens of PM, Natural Disaster

To take stock of the situation once again, the pandemic is receding a bit and the curve is falling from the peak. There has been a drop in the weekly average number of cases by almost a lakh from 3.5 lakh to 2.75 lakh. If the country bucks up and act responsibly, there can be a fall in the cases going ahead. The five states of Maharastra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh are contributing heftily to the list. Maharastra is way ahead with more than double infections than the second placed Karnataka in terms of total infections accrued from the beginning. One puzzle is why there are still these many cases recorded when these five states are under strict lockdown since past few weeks.               Indians are good at pretending to follow lockdown but don’t actually follow it. The case in the point is Maharastra which went into curfew mod...
